Loved Ones Training Series

The series is designed specifically for loved ones of the incarcerated. The topics covered in each training align with our mission, providing families and loved ones of the incarcerated the resources and tools necessary to fight for the rights and dignity of their currently incarcerated loved ones and work towards decarceration in our state.

Abolition 101

Benji Hart, a Chicago-based author, educator, and artist whose work centers Black radicalism, queer liberation, and prison abolition, facilitates this training. This training covers Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) abolition. This is meant to be a space of learning and community building!

Writing Grievances

Speakers include Marshan Allen, formerly incarcerated cctivist and national policy director at Represent Justice, Pablo Mendoza, formerly incarcerated activist and project manager + research fellow at Prison Neighborhood Arts Project (PNAP), and Alan Mills, lawyer and executive director of the Uptown People’s Law Center. This training outlines how to write a successful grievance, discuss why they are needed, and address common questions and concerns about writing them!

Legislative Organizing

Facilitated by Alex Boutros, this training breaks down the legislative process and the different ways to advocate throughout the process. Alex Boutros has extensive legislative organizing experience in Illinois, with a history of advocating for criminal justice and democracy reforms.
